So what is haramaki?

Loosely translated, haramaki comes from the Japanese words hara, meaning the center of the body, and maki, meaning 'to wrap up', much in the same way a maki sushi roll is wrapped up. The word haramaki refers to what was historically a Samurai armor which gradually evolved into a special tubular garment that is worn around the midsection of the body as a belly warmer!

Why wear haramaki?

Haramaki is worn to increase circulation in the internal organs, which generates warmth throughout the entire body. Once worn mainly as an undergarment in Japan, haramaki has seen a resurgence in recent years in Japanese fashion, acting as both a fashion and health accessory.

I was recently given the chance to review a haramaki from Haramaki Love. I love my belly band, that I have used since I was pregnant, so was very excited to try this one out! My belly band has served me well, from keeping my maternity pants from falling down, and allowing me to wear pre-pregnancy jeans, even in the last weeks of pregnancy.

I still use my belly band, even now that my daughter is 8 months old! Since I'm nursing, it's great to wear under my top, so that my tummy isn't exposed when I'm nursing in a top that I have to pull up. Plus, since it's starting to get colder, I'm able to keep my stomach a lot warmer!

I especially love that I am able to create a larger wardrobe with the haramaki! Shirts that are too short, or pants that don't fit quite right, can now be worn with no problem!

The Haramaki Love band is wonderful. It does everything my belly band does! And it is so cute! There is a little Haramaki Love heart embroidered on the bottom side.
