Happy New Year's Eve!

2009 is coming to close!
I spent the first week of this year pregnant. I spent every other week of the year as a mommy. Without a doubt this has been the best year ever. It has flown by for sure though! I am pretty sure I was JUST pregnant! I JUST had Lovebug. And she was JUST a month old. Right? No? Hmm.

And, this year, I had the pleasure of connecting with some wonderful people via twitter and my blog. Those wonderful people have become some of my dearest friends and I love you all!

It's been a wonderful year! Thank you all for being a part of my life!

So, here is to 2010. May it bring love, happiness, and everything we hoped for! I'll see you NEXT year :)

Goodbye, 2009. Hello, 2010!

Peanut Brittle Recipe!

For holidays and birthdays, my go to gift is homemade peanut brittle. My Grandfather loves this stuff, so I try to make some as part of his gift. It is super easy and this recipe makes about one pound.

Ingredients-
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup white corn syrup
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Directions-
  • Have a lightly greased cookie sheet ready.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, stir sugar and corn syrup together. Microwave for four minutes.
  • Add peanuts to the mixture and stir. Microwave for five minutes.
  • Add butter and vanilla and stir. Microwave for two minutes.
  • Add baking soda to the mix, stir quickly until foamy. Spread onto cookie sheet very quickly and smooth out. (It helps to have someone hold the bowl tilted over the cookie sheet while you scoop it out)
  • Let peanut brittle cool, then crack into smaller pieces.

**This gets very hot and will burn you if you get any of it on your skin. PLEASE do not have any children near you while making this**

Gypsy Jewels Review and Giveaway! Closed!

This giveaway is closed!
"Juliea, the creator of Gypsy Jewels, is a Doula, a mother of three, a wife and an employee of the only breastfeeding boutique owned by a lactation consultant in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Gypsy Jewels has been creating quality gemstone jewelry for 10 years. They have built quite the reputation for original and functional goods as well as exceptional customer service. While getting ready for the birth of her son, Zander, she came across the conventional nursing covers and thought "there must be a better way". Nursing covers are bulky and take up precious space in a diaper bag or purse and they need to be washed periodically. Instantly the idea for Nursing Clips was born. Ever since that moment she has been creating unique and beautiful beaded clips as well as "Buddy Blankets" and burp cloths for the convenience of any nursing mother out there. "

Juliea, of Gypsy Jewels, was kind enough to contact me to see if I would like to review the Nursing Clips. I love trying out all breastfeeding related products and jumped at the chance. At almost one, I am still nursing Lovebug anywhere and everywhere we go. In the beginning, I did cover up quite frequently, and used a blanket to do so. It was a struggle to keep the blanket where it needed to be. Oh how I wish I had this then. My diaper bag was so full and packed, I don't think I could fit an extra nursing cover in there. This product is great because it's so tiny, and just hooks to a regular blanket. No extras needed. Depending on the type/weight of the blanket, you can still pucker it out to see your little one and so they can see you!

Once her head was bigger than my boob, and I was little braver. I stopped using covers. Especially since she would try to rip it off anyway. I did clip the Gypsy Jewels Nursing Clips to a blanket though, and tried nursing the Lovebug that way. I mostly wanted to see if it would stand up to her yanking at the blanket. It did, and I am impressed! If your little one is no longer nursing, or won't tolerate a cover, you can still use the Nursing Clips. Check out this picture, to see all the ways your Nursing Clip can be used! Plus, there are so many color combinations, and at half the price of other conventional nursing covers, you could buy two or three and coordinate with your outfit!

Nursing Clips aren't the only product offered by Gypsy Jewels! There are gorgeous necklaces and decoupaged boxes! Gypsy Jewels also sells a Buddy Blanket, which compliment the line of Nursing Clips! The seam in the Buddy Blanket, allows Mom to see her child while using it as a nursing cover with the Nursing Clips! We have something similar to this, although not quite as lovely, for Lovebug. We keep all of her pictures, milestone information, and other little tidbits of her life in it. I wish I had seen this one first!

Juliea of Gypsy Jewels has generously offered to give one Moma Lovebug reader their own nursing clip!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all of the Moma Lovebug readers!

Today is the Lovebug's first Christmas! Hubby and I spent hours last night putting together her big present (a kitchen). So 8 or 9 am will come too early. I'm not sure if she'll quite "get it" this year, but she'll sure be fun to watch anyway :)

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and be safe if you are traveling!

Aloha Friday #23

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

First of all....Merry Christmas!! I hope you all have a wonderful day with your families :)

What are your plans for New Years Eve?

I'm not even sure what we are doing yet! We typically spend the evening with family. But, since the lovebug is here, we might just stay in and toast to the New Year by ourselves.

Head over to An Island Life for more Aloha Friday!!

Sugar Cookie Recipe!

Last week, while searching for a yummy sugar cookie recipe, I stumbled on this one. I cut the recipe in half, just to try it first. I ended up wishing I'd doubled it! They cookies are delicious. The dough still comes out fairly sticky after chilling. But, you can add in more flour to keep it from sticking as much though. So, in case you are leaving out cookies for Santa tonight, here is the recipe!

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour (You'll need more to spread on the counter and to add into the dough to make it less sticky)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

Things are a'changing!

You may have noticed by now that Moma Lovebug is on it's very own domain now! Typing in the blogspot address should still reroute you to the new address, but you may want to update it, just in case :)
All of the buttons should be correctly linked, so if you have my button on your blog, I'd appreciate you changing the link to our new address. If you do so and are entering the giveaways, you'll get extra entries for changing it!

There are going to be other little tweaks and changes coming up too! So don't miss them :)

Oh, and don't forget- one comment here, here, or here will get you an extra entry!

MyClyns Review and Live Giveaway! Closed!

This Giveaway is closed!
"When an exposure has occurred, response time is critical to lower your chance of becoming infected. In cases of exposure, you need a product that works effectively and is safe to use anywhere.

With MyClyns Personal Spray a whole new standard of care is available to protect you in the field when and where you need it. MyClyns Personal Spray is a protective spray in an easy-to-use convenient pen-like device that allows you to protect yourself immediately after an exposure while you are still attending to your care recipient."

We are in the thick of cold and flu season and it's just not pretty. With the Lovebug, I'm trying extra hard to keep her safe and away from germs. When we are out shopping, it only takes a second for someone to walk over and touch her face. I try to deflect, but some people are just too fast. I hate using a wipe on her face, as they bother her face and dry her skin out. So, MyClyns is the perfect solution!

There is no alcohol, it's non-toxic, and non-burning. Best of all, it's safe for all ages. I tried spraying it on my face as soon as it came in the mail. There was no burning, no tingling, no smell. No anything. Which is a good thing! It actually felt refreshing! I haven't tried it on Lovebug yet, only because we haven't had a situation where I would need to. MyClyns is going in my diaper bag for sure!

MyClyns may end up in my Husband's stocking this year too! He is a massage therapist and is in contact with a lot of people each and every day. It would make me feel better know he had some protection if a client accidentally sneezed on him! Wouldn't you love to put this in your loved ones stocking?

MyClyns is available at many different retailers, including CVS! That is great for me, because CVS is the closest place to me! It's a little more expensive ($7.99-$9.99) than other sanitizers, but because this is safe for your eyes, nose, and mouth, it's very worth it! Be sure to check out MyClyns on Facebook, too!

Best of all? One Moma Lovebug reader is getting their own MyClyns!

Here are the rules: You must be a follower of my blog and visit MyClyns's new website, and tell me something you learned!

After doing the mandatory entry, feel free to comment whatever you like. Do you have any germ solutions? Tell me about it!

Once the number of comments reaches 350, I will turn comments off and choose a winner using random.org.

Contest is open to continental residents of the US only. Contest will end in one week at 11:59 pm EST if we fail to reach the specified number of comments. A winner will be chosen by random.org and will be notified by email. I will also announce the winner in a separate post. You must contact me within 48 hours. If you fail to claim your prize, a new winner will be chosen by random.org and emailed. Please see my Disclosure.

**I was given the MyClyns for free, in exchange for my review, the opinions expressed are my own**

The Homestead Company Review and Giveaway! Closed!

This Giveaway is closed!
"The Homestead Company was created in September of 2005. It was originally started as good-neighbor program to share and help other moms like me find the best, natural alternatives to baby products. It was later conceived as an idea for a home-based business as a way of sharing my knowledge in nutrition and health wellness to a more broad network. My dedication to this field of study (Nutrition and Toxicology) began in 2002 when I was learning about how to improve my health, nutrition, baby product selection and conserve resources. I realized that I was doing so much research on diets, nutrition, health and toxicology that I decided to begin a Masters of Science in Nutrition. This opened a new way of thinking as I began to realize how much we don't know about what is in our foods, cleaning supplies, and other every day household items."

The Homestead Company kindly offered to send me the Mommy & Baby Gift/Starter Set. My daughter was going through a really bad diaper rash at the time, so I couldn't wait to get it! We don't have any other cloth diaper safe diaper cream, and liners were getting to be a pain. So, because the Mommy & Baby Gift/Starter Set diaper rash cream is cloth diaper friendly, it made it even better!
The Mommy & Baby Gift/Starter Set contains a 4 ounce Baby Wipe Companion, a 1 ounce Baby Wipe Companion, a 1 ounce Diaper Rash Oil, a 2 ounce Baby Balm, and Lavender and Chamomile Body Butter.
I loved each and every product. Within just two diaper changes, using the Baby Wipe Companion and Diaper Rash Oil has almost completely gotten rid of the rash! I was completely amazed! We use the Wipe companion everyday, and I keep the smaller size in the diaper bag for when we are out and about. I have noticed considerably less rashes since we started using these products from The Homestead Company.
I love the body butter too! Lovebug's skin has been fine with it, thank goodness. It's a little bit strong, but as soon as you apply it, the smell dissipates, and you are left with soft baby butt skin! The set is priced at $34.99, and while that seems sort of expensive, I think it is a great deal! You get 5 products, and they each last a very long time!

Not only does The Homestead Company have a ton of awesome products for Baby, but they also have Spa, Skincare, and other Gift Sets available, too. Check out this Eczema Oil, safe for all ages. Plus, there are no chemicals that cause nasty side effects, like another prescription cream. The Skin Essentials Gift Set would make a great holiday gift, too! I love getting natural things that I can pamper myself with!

The Homestead Company has generously offered to give one Moma Lovebug reader a giftcard for $40!

I'm going to NYC!

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine, Little E's Momma, told me about an upcoming Martha Stewart show focusing on bloggers! Thinking I would never get picked, I still applied for tickets, and crossed my fingers.
Yesterday, I got the email confirming that I got tickets!! I literally screamed out loud. I'm super excited! Martha has asked that everyone bring their laptop or phone, or whatever they blog from to the audience too! How cool is that? So look out for some tweets while I'm there!

This is going to be a busy couple of weeks! Christmas, then New Years. Lovebug's birthday, a two week birthday bash on my blog, visiting NYC! And then a ton of other birthday's and parties sprinkled in between.

It has been years since I've been to NYC! Hubby and Lovebug are coming along, too. It will be their first time to New York! YAY!!!!

Extra Entries

For the past week, I've been giving out extra entries as a part of the 12 days of Christmas. I've noticed some people claiming them, and not using them though.

I don't mind waiting a day or two, but there are entries from the first day that haven't been claimed. I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but if you claim the extra entries, please use them. Or, don't claim them, and let another person have that chance.

Thank you!!

Edit: I just wanted to add that you can only use the extra entries on the giveaways that were available on the day that you won them. For example, if you won entries yesterday, but haven't use them, you could not use them on the new giveaway going up on Sunday.

Walgreens Digital Temple Thermometer Review!

"Temple Touch Thermometers aim to set the new standard in fever measurement. They are affordable, reliable, accurate and non-invasive. Both versions of the Temple Touch have a unique design & technical capabilities, enabling parents to receive quick and accurate temperature measurement by just touching the child’s temple. The temple area is a comfortable and easy measurement site, accessible when child or patient is awake or asleep."

I was recently able to try the Premium Temple Touch Thermometer from Walgreens. Prior to this, we used a digital stick thermometer, which was okay, until we had the Lovebug. All of a sudden, if she felt too warm, we would have to check her temperature rectally. When she was tiny, she didn't mind so much, but I still felt awful. Now though, she'll barely hold still to nurse. There is no way she'd let me take her temperature like that!

The Premium Temple Touch Thermometer is so easy to use! You just press the power button, and wait for the beep to let you know it's ready. Then by pressing set, you can choose where you want to measure the temperature (either temple or underarm). Then it's just as simple as holding it on the area, and waiting about 6 seconds. It might take a little longer if you have a squirmy little one, but it is still better than waiting 30 seconds to get a read out on a stick thermometer!

The Premium Temple Touch Thermometer will beep again, letting you know that it has finished and the temperature will show on the screen. If the temperature is in the high 99's, the Premium Temple Touch Thermometer will keep beeping, letting you know you have a fever.

The Premium Temple Touch Thermometer also uses the patented R.A.T.E. Technology to measure temperature. I cannot say enough good things about this product. It's non invasive, so I can use this on the Lovebug when she is awake or asleep! There is a large backlight display, so if you sneak into youe child's dark room to check, it will be no problem seeing the read out.

The Premium Temple Touch Thermometer has a few other neat features. Just by pressing and holding the power button, you can check the temperature of the room around you! Right now it's a nice 74.1 degrees! The other awesome thing is that the Premium Temple Touch Thermometer has an Over Dose Protection Timer (ODPT). You can easily set the timer on the thermometer to go off at different intervals. This is great if you need to administer medicine on a schedule!

If/when it wears out, we will replace it with the same one. Since the product retails for $29.99, I think it is pretty affordable! If you are looking for something a little more simple and cheaper, there is also a Mini Temple Touch Thermometer. This sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide under the ReliOn brand for $9.94.

You can find out more information about the Walgreen's Temple Touch Thermometer on their website, or visit them on Twitter and Facebook!

*I received the Digital Temple Thermometer free of charge in exchange for this review. The opinions expressed are my own* Please see my Disclosure.

Habitwise Review and Giveaway! Closed!

This Giveaway is closed!
"Habitwise™ began with a simple weight loss tool originally named, A-Wrist-A-Trac, which was discovered by a team of clinicians at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, Nebraska.
A small group of professional women saw the potential of A-Wrist-A-Trac and were inspired by the
low-tech innovation that could be used to remedy challenges in their own lives- especially the challenge between knowing and doing when it comes to living a healthier life.
Lunch meetings, baseball games, conference calls, or dance lessons are all distractions that keep us from doing what we know is best. The women found that simple bracelets served as friendly reminders and empowered them to accomplish many goals, thus paving the journey for Habitwise.
The technology was licensed from the University in cooperation with UNMC's technology transfer division, UNeMed Corporation, and now the women have ignited their entrepreneurial spirit and are out changing lives!"

I was able to try out the get LOSS for Women by Habitwise in the warm colors. Using different color bracelets, the get LOSS helps you track what foods, and how much of those foods you are eating. Once you begin to track your eating, you can see where you need to cut back, and in turn, lose weight! You do have to take charge of yourself, in putting the bracelets on each day and then moving them over to the other wrist.
There is a little chart in the get LOSS book that you receive with the bracelets. It lets you know what each color represents, and the number of servings you'll need. I couldn't get a very good picture of it, but it is there, so you don't have to figure out what each bracelet represents on your own. You can also use the bracelets as calorie counters. The book recommends 1 bracelet= 50 calories. So as you consume your daily calories, you just move over how ever many bracelets for that meal.
My little girl almost broke them a few times. So, in order to combat her grabbing. I placed all of the get LOSS bracelets kitchen table. Each time I went into the kitchen for something, I moved the bracelet that corresponded to whatever I was getting to a different pile.
I'll admit, I haven't been as diligent with it as I'd have liked to, but it was definitely an eye opener seeing the bracelets move from one side to another. I am eating better and eating less now for sure!

Habitwise and get LOSS is absolutely terrific, especially for the Holiday season and those New Year resolutions! get LOSS comes in two different color sections, warm or cool. And also comes in a token version for men. All your tokens start in one pocket, and as the day progresses, you move them to the other pocket. Even if you've met your goals, and the system is no longer needed, the women's bracelets are cute enough to wear anyway!

There are lots of different products at Habitwise to choose from. There are get LOSS and get WET programs for both men and women, as well as get TRACKING for children! If you want your own Habitwise system, and don't want to wait to win, they are having a sale! Check out all of the products here!

Habitwise has generously offered to give one Moma Lovebug reader the Habitwise product of their choice!

I know that some parents don't do Santa with their kids, but my mom did with me while I was growing up. Even now, she still writes from Santa on presents, hehe! One of the things I had to do, was leave cookies and milk out. So, even though Lovebug won't be quite a year old on Christmas, we will be leaving cookies out :)

Dear Santa

Dear Santa,

There are exactly 15 days until Christmas, as I'm sure you already know :) And while I haven't written you a letter in a pretty long time, I had just a few wishes this season.

The first is for Hubby, he drives an hour away to work at a job where is over-qualified and under-paid. A new one, closer to home, that pays more would be nice. The closer he is to home, equals more time spent with his family :)

For the second request- I know you aren't in charge of this holiday, but... A Halloween baby might be nice. Just sayin'.

That is pretty much it! Though, I'd love some new nursing bras, too. LOL But I'd be happy with the first two.

Merry Christmas, Santa!

Love,
Moma Lovebug

Wordless Wednesday- Happy Holidays!!

I was looking through photos earlier this week, and found this one. I'm not sure if it is from Christmas, or New Years. So I was about 35-36 weeks pregnant and a week or so from being induced. That is my hubby behind me, eating! Gosh, I seriously have baby fever and miss that bump!

Beibi Shoes Review and Giveaway! Closed!

This giveaway is closed!
"As parents of infants and toddlers, our inspiration for WeeSqueak shoes was watching our children in these shoes. We discovered these little gems while in China adopting our oldest daughter, Chloe. However, during the adopting of our youngest daughter, Ellie, we had the idea to bring some shoes back for our friend's children. Our company, WeeSqueak, was born! We are fun parents, with fun shoes for fun kids! Wee Squeak donates 5% of our profits to Half the Sky and to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society."

Beibi Shoes was kind enough to send me the boots you see pictured here for my Lovebug! I had such a hard time picking what shoe to get. I even enlisted my Husband's help to choose! We received them in a very timely manner. The moment they were out of the box, they were on my daughter's feet.

We've had a horrible time with correct shoe sizing with other companies. One brand, my daughter wears a 3-6 month shoe (she is almost 11 months) and another brand, she wears a 12-18 month size. So, just to be on the safe side, I ordered the Beibi Shoes boot in size 12-18 months. Shoes are easier to grow into if you get them too big, than the other way around.

Although this size is too big on my daughter, I was happy to see that Beibi Shoes fit pretty much to the age they say. I know in a month or two, my daughter will be fitting in these perfectly. For now, she loves to look at them and see how shiny they are!

They seem like they are made very well, too. And even though we haven't been able to properly test out the Beibi Shoes, I know they are going to hold up when my daughter is walking around on her own!

Beibi Shoes not only offers shoes for girls, but boys, too! You can check out the girls collection here, and the boys collection here. While you are browsing the site, check out the adorable Wee Squeak shoes! I think I might order a pair of these as soon as Lovebug is walking on her own!

Beibi Shoes has generously offered to give one Moma Lovebug reader a pair of Beibi Shoes of their choice!

Wish Upon A Hero

The fabulous Amber of RockerByeBaby is helping out families this year through Wish Upon a Hero. Unfortunately, we are not in a place that we can help out. But, hopefully you can. Let Amber know if there is anything you can donate or send to help these families out. The holidays are hard, especially if you have no income.

If you can't afford to help out, that's okay, too. I have sent cards to families on Wish Upon a Hero, and they've always been well received. For the cost of a card and stamp, you can help brighten someone's life :) Just search for card wishes!

Thank you!

All of the hubub

Thursday morning, while visiting a forum I participate in, I read a thread about one of the women finding out she was hypothyroid. A few symptoms were listed off. And the light went on over my head.
The past few months, I've been feeling especially tired and drained. I've been getting snappy over little stuff to hubby, even to Lovebug, and it makes me feel just awful :( There are so many other things, too. Most of them I'd just attributed to hormonal changes from having a baby. But, that light bulb prompted me to think otherwise.
I hate playing Dr. Google, but I looked up other symptoms of Hypothyroidism. After almost every symptom was a big picture of me, me, me! I called the doctor and was thankfully able to get in today to be checked out.

When I got to the doctors, one of the first things she did, was check my previous blood work. Apparently, blood work from mid 2008 showed that I WAS hypothyroid. For some reason, it was either lost, or looked over, because nothing was done about it.
The doctor prescribed a plethora of new blood work, to recheck my thyroid, and rule out any other factors. She also wants me to have an MRI w/ and w/o contrast and an MRA very soon (like today), to rule out brain tumor and aneurysms (which have a scary high rate in my family).

So, that is what is going on. The following part of the post, is me griping about the new hospital. You don't have to read it, if you don't want to. But, I need to get it out!

So, I left the doctors, at almost 5 pm, and went to the very NEW hospital to have the blood work done. I'd not been there before. But, I heard it was absolutely crazy. It's supposed to be a better facility (it is replacing two hospitals) and be better technology.
Lets just say I was pretty lost just pulling into the parking lot. And trying to find registration? It was like a maze. Once I did find registration, there was no one there. Some kind lady pointed to a kiosk that you are supposed to check in at and get a number. There are no signs or anything pointing to the kiosk that explains you are supposed to check in there rather than the empty registration desk.
So we wait, and wait, and wait some more. I had heard that waiting times were supposed to be minimal with the new set up, but I was sure doing plenty of it.
Finally, about 40 minutes after taking a number, I was called to register. The lady checking me in was an idiot. Seriously. She had screwed up the paperwork of the 2 people prior to me, and was heading there with mine as well. After she got over her confusion, I went to sit back down and wait some more...More than an hour later, I was finally called back to get blood taken. While I was back there, the phlebotomist proceeded to screw things up as well, and when a fellow coworker came back to check on something, they proceeded to have a bitch fest, in front of me, about all of the patients that needed to get there before 5. I ended up waiting for another 30 minutes back there, only about 2 minutes of that was her actually drawing TWELVE vials of blood.
When she was done, I hurried the hell out of there, grabbed hubby and Lovebug, and left as fast as I could. We were in there such a long time, and ran into problem after problem. There were other patients waiting, too, that they didn't know what to do with, and kept trying to pass them off to other departments. It was pretty sad and frustrating :(
And, if they couldn't get any worse- There was a girl there having an Ultrasound. She was pretty pregnant, and looked very comfortable. When she asked where the ultrasound area was, TWO people told her they had no idea. Nor did they offer to find out. So, she just sort of looked at them, and they looked at her like, "what do you want us to do about it?"

This new hospital may have better technology and be state of the art, but they have employed some of the dumbest people that have no people skills and are not personable, at all.
I have to go back today for my scans, and I am worried about how long it is going to take this time!

Aloha Friday #20

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

What was you favorite toy that you got for the holidays growing up?

Mine had to be a kitchen that I received when I was about 4 or 5. I loved it so much, and played with it for years :) I am so excited to give our Lovebug one, too!

Conflicting schedules

I never really defined myself with schedules. Even with work. 9-5 was a big pain in the butt. I'm too "creative" and "flowing" to 1) sit in a chair all day and 2) to work the same shift everyday for the next ever. I kept to deadlines, but schedules? That didn't do it for me.

Then, I pregnant. I was sort of happy for the schedule I had. It meant that I could make an appointment, and be able to keep it. I completely stopped working a few weeks before Lovebug was born though. And let me tell you, it was so nice to go to bed when I wanted, and get up when I felt like it. I knew that wouldn't be happening soon. So I took full advantage.

When our daughter was born, I was a sleep deprived zombie from the get-go. I had spent the previous week in a state of sick, without electricity, and in a 3 am nesting phase. I got very little sleep while in labor. But, I do what Moms do, and I sucked it up.

Thankfully, Hubby's job was a P.I.T.A. and delayed his start day from Jan. 1 to the end of Feb. That sucked as we had no income, but I had him home with me for almost two months. We took shifts, and I was able to sleep.

I never planned on trying to get my daughter to adapt to our schedule. "On demand," was my new motto. If that meant getting up at 3, 4, and 6 to breastfeed, so be it. I felt like I was constantly hearing, "When are you going to get her on a schedule?"

Eventually, we sort of adapted to each other's schedule. Lovebug would sleep around 10-12 hours (waking only once or twice to eat) then awake for two hours, nap for two hours, awake two more hours, nap again for two, then up until bedtime.

That was great for me. Except, that "bedtime" for her wasn't until 3-4 am most nights. And, the time was never consistent.

I finally started trying to get her on "my schedule". With the help of daylight savings and "fall back" I was able to. I finally had one of those kids that went to bed at 7pm and got up 12 hours later (with a midnight snack) and went down for naps at a normal time.

It was awesome. Did you notice that I wrote WAS. As in past tense. That wonderful schedule lasted almost three weeks. Just long enough for me to get used to in, and revel in it.

Now? My daughter went to bed at 5 am this morning. Yup, you read that right. As for me? I haven't gotten more than 2 hours of sleep at a time in almost a week. I try to catch up when Hubby is home. But, really, you can't make up missed sleep.

Here I am, my daughter and I have conflicting schedules. I've tried tinkering with her naps and awake time, but all I get is one pissed off child. And if this is any indication of how she is going to be when she is older, the terrible twos might send me to the funny farm.

1 Bag at a Time Live Giveaway! Closed!

This giveaway is closed!
You can read my original review of 1 Bag at a Time here.

A few months ago, I was sent reusable standard shopping bags from 1 Bag at a Time. We have been using them ever since they arrived, and I'm not even sure what I'd do without them!
Not only have we been using them for groceries, but if I need a bag to throw some stuff in, I grab one of these. My Brother-in-law, even used one to collect his Halloween candy in. They are so multi-functional!

Just a few weeks ago, 1 Bag at a Time offered to send me one of their Jute Bags to try out. I loved this bag before I even got to try it out! It is organic and 100% biodegradable. So, when you are done with it, you can plant it in your garden, and it will return to the Earth.

The Jute Bag does not have a bottom stiffener like the standard shopping bag, so it makes it a little hard to stand up to put things in it. But once you have a couple items in, that is no longer an issue! The Jute Bag was able to hold about two or three plastic grocery bags worth of items, and with the thick handle, it was still easy to carry. Not only is this a great bag for grocery shopping, but I think it would make a great bag to take shopping with you normally.

• Zero waste! It’s 100% organic and biodegradable!
• Soft cotton handles are easy on hands and slip over most shoulders.
• Light and strong--holds books and other heavy items easily.
• Natural color and styling are attractive and eco-chic.
• Our tag encourages consumers to plant it in their garden after long
and useful service.
• Available with our logo or customized with your design.

For only $19.99 you'll get a 5 pack of the Jute Bag. I think this is a great replacement for gift bags, while still be affordable. I know my family would appreciate getting a bag like this that they could use over and over, rather than a paper gift bag that will just rip. If you are a business owner, 1 Bag at a Time offers their bags in bulk. It's customizable, too!

There are so many other great reusable bag options at 1 Bag at a Time. Take a look here to see all of the bags they offer! I absolutely love the Handcrafted Designer Bag. While it is more expensive than the other bags, it is gorgeous, and would even make a great purse! The Eco-Wrap Bundle is a great deal. This set includes 10 decorative pull bows, and 10 eco-friendly reusable bags! All for just $10.99!
If you haven't caught on by now, I absolutely LOVE 1 Bag at a Time. With all of their options, you'll find bags that are just right for your family.

1 Bag at a Time is offering an amazing deal right now. With every order of ten or more standard shopping bags, you'll receive one free Jute Bag! This offer will expire on December 24, 2009 or while supplies last.

1 Bag at a Time has also generously offered to give one reader a Jute Bag of their own!

Here are the rules: You must be a follower of my blog. You can leave as many comments as you like, but please don't leave one or two word comments. You can leave facts from 1 Bag at a Time, or if you already use reusable shopping bags, or want to, let me know about it! Be sure to tweet the contest for extra comments, too!

UPDATE-Comments can say whatever you'd like, they no longer have to be about reusable bags!

Once the number of comments reaches 500, I will turn comments off and choose a winner using random.org.
