Sodastream Review and Giveaway! Closed!

Sodastream generously sent me the Penguin starter kit to review a couple of months ago. Although we mostly drink water. I love (and sometimes crave) a good soda. However, it's not always in the budget to run out and buy some. Nor is it eco-friendly to be using all of the plastic bottles or aluminum cans.

The Penguin Sodastream, unlike the other soda makers that use plastic bottles, uses glass carafes. I liked this idea more, since we try to use as little plastic as possible. But once I started using it, I worried about dropping and breaking it. Especially since we have a curious toddler. Unfortunately, the day came when I knocked it off of the counter top and on to the floor. You want to know what happened to the Sodastream carafe? Nothing. It stayed in piece! Not even a chip! While I'm not going to let Lovebug play with it, I'm pretty confident that it can hold up to mostly whatever throw at it.

The list of flavors is pretty large too! Sodastream recommends that you add the flavor to the bottle, and stir lightly. We tried this for awhile, but my husband and I don't always like the same flavors all the time. So, we just starting making a carafe of sparkling water, and then adding a couple drops of flavor into the cup! Super easy and we could have a different flavor every time!


I also like that we can control the level of carbonation. I've had some sodas that the fizz just burns! But with Sodastream, I can add as much or as little carbonation as we like! The husband likes a little less the regular sodas too. So one or two "whistles" is usually just fine for us!

I like that we're being eco-friendly too! No more plastic bottles or cans coming or going. No store bought water. I fill the carafes up with filtered tap water and put them in the fridge. That's it. They are nice and cold for when I'm ready. Just a few more quick steps- so there is no waiting for a tasty beverage!

The not so good part- the start up cost can be pretty big. Sodastream ranges from $89-$199. If you often buy soda, it is a wonderfully awesome deal. If you only have the occasional soda though, it might not be cost effective for your family.

Overall, I really like our SodaStream. If I need a boost to get through the day, it's right at my finger tips, pretty cheap (compared to long term buying soda), and eco-friendly! What's not to like?
